Who is the Valley NCSY

In 2003, S.Z. NCSY regrouped and formed "The Valley NCSY”. We now have a membership of more then 300 students from local Yeshivas and public schools, and serves the entire Valley community including North Hollywood, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Valley Village, Encino, Tarzana, Agoura, Calabasas, and West Valley just to name a few.

Devorah and Yanky Lunger, the Directors of Valley NCSY, run our chapter more like a family than anything else. Our “Family Tree” keeps growing and expanding with new members and programs every year.

Our chapter has earned the "West Coast NCSY - Chapter of the Year” award in it’s first two-years due to the determination of our Valley chapter teen board, who has brought such Ruach and excitement to each event.

Our first Shabbaton drew a crowd of 45 teens, that's where the class "DNL" (Dinner-N-Learning) class was first created. The name DNL came about at the very first Valley NCSY Shabbaton, [ask a Valley NCSYer for the story behind the creation of DNL]. DNL has now become a household name and is being used by many chapters around the nation.

DNL was originally created for our public school teens to learn Pirkei Avos and Parsha once a week at the home of a fellow public school student, however the news of this amazing class quickly spread and within months it attracted more then 60 public school and Yeshiva students who participated every single week. Due to the overwhelming response and being that we outgrew our space, we moved to a new location, a local Pizza store, and we added an additional class every single week, now, DNL is being held every week in two locations, one in Tarzana and one in Agoura at local Pizza Shops. Our second year’s Shabbaton drew a crowd of about to 70 teens. This past winter our shabbaton drew well over 100 teens. We recently enjoyed a very successful Purim experience Shabbaton in New Square, NY with 50 teens.

We have B’H been very successful in arranging more then 85 amazing events last year including Shabbatons, Friday night dinner and oneg's, weekly Shalosh Seudos, Community Melava malka’s, BBQs, Kaparos and Tashlich before Yom Kippur, Simchas Bais Hasoeiva on Succos, Shevuos all night learning (this year more then 70 teens participated), and many more events…

The Valley NCSY provides our teens with free Tzizis and sidurim.

At the last years winter Regional we hosted a Bar Mitzvah for two brothers aged 15 & 17 years old from Van Nuys High School. We gave them their very own first pair of Tefilin.

In the past two-years we have seen four Valley NCSY students switch from public schools to Yeshivos. As well as sent about 15 students to Eretz Yisroel for serious post high school Yeshiva learning.
